A significant discussion took place at the Mahila Sahayogi Samuha office in Itahari-06, Sunsari on July 4, 2024 (2081/03/20, Thursday) with the Executive Director of WOFOWON, Srijana Pun, and Advisor Parbati Basnet. The topics covered included harmful traditional practices, feminism, issues in the entertainment sector, movements, and concerns related to sex workers.

हाम्रो महिला सहयोगी समूहका सदस्य……..(नाम नखुलाएको) । जो HIV Positive हुनुहुन्छ । उहाको २१ र २३ वर्षका दुईजना छोराहरु छन । बुवाको नागरिकता नभएको र मृत्यु भईसकेको कारण, बुवाको मृत्यु दर्ता, छोराहरुको जन्म दर्ता, आमाको वंशज नागरिकता हुदा हुदै पनि आमाको नामबाट नागरिकताको प्रमाण लिनको लागि विगत लामो समय देखी विभिन्न संघ संस्था, आफन्त जनहरुले धेरै प्रयास हरु गर्दा पनि नागरिकता बनेको थिएन । यसै क्रममा आमा कारागारमा पर्नुभयो र बच्चा हरुलाई पढन, खान, कोठा भाडा तिर्न निकै कठिनाईहरु भए, त्यस समयमा हाम्रो संस्था साथै विभिन्न संस्थाहरु, व्यक्तिगत र ईटहरी उपमहानगरपालिकाले पनि सहयोग गरेको थियो । नागरिकता जति प्रयास गर्दा पनि नबने पश्चात महिला सहयोगी समूहले २०८० साल पुष महिनामा महिला, कानून र विकास मञ्च Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) संस्था संग सहकार्य गरेर सर्वोच्च अदालतमा मुद्धा हालेको र २०८१ साल असारमा परमादेश जारि भएर आए अनुसार आमाको नामबाट मिति २०८१ साल असार महिनाको १९ गते, बुधबार जिल्ला प्रशासन कार्यालय सुनसरी बाट अन्तत नागरिकता लिन सफल भएका छन ।

यस सफलता प्राप्तीका लागि विशेष धन्यवाद महिला, कानून र विकास मञ्च Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) संस्थाका कर्मचारीहरु र विशेष धन्यवाद अधिवक्ता ज्यूलाई जसले यो मुद्धा हेर्नु भएको थियो,  त्यसैगरी ईटहरी उपमहानगरपालिका ४ नं वडा कार्यालयका सम्पुर्ण पदाधिकारीहरु साथै कर्मचारीहरु र जिल्ला प्रशासन कार्यालय, सुनसरी, ईनरुवाका जिल्ला प्रमुख अधिकारी ज्यू, सहायक जिल्ला प्रमुख अधिकारी ज्यू, प्रशासकीय अधिकृत ज्यू, साथै सम्पुर्ण कर्मचारीहरु, स्वास्वा नेपाल टिम  लगाएत यस सफलता प्राप्तीका लागि प्रयास गर्नुहुने, मेहेनत गर्नुहुने र योगदान दिनुहुने सम्पुर्ण सहयोगी मन तथा हातहरुलाई हामि महिला सहयोगी समूह ईटहरी ०६, सुनसरी को तर्फबाट एकमुष्ट धन्यवाद व्यक्त गर्न चाहन्छौ ।

Our member of Mahila Sahayogi Samuha, [name confidential], who is HIV positive, has two sons aged 21 and 23. Due to their father's lack of citizenship and subsequent demise, obtaining citizenship through their mother's lineage had been an enduring challenge. Despite numerous efforts by various organizations, individuals, and local authorities, citizenship had not been granted. During the same time, our member has been sent to the prison, during this period, her children faced a lot of difficulties so our organization, along with various institutions and Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City, provided support to them. Despite our continued efforts, citizenship was not achieved. Subsequently, in Poush 2080 (January 2024), our organization collaborated with Forum for Women, Law, and Development (FWLD) Kathmandu to present the case to the Supreme Court, resulting in a Interim Order issued in Asar 2081 (June 2024). According to this, on the 19th of Asar 2081 (3^rd June 2024), Wednesday, they were able to successfully obtain citizenship from the District Administration Office, Sunsari-Inaruwa.

For this achievement, we extend special thanks to the staff of Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) who took on this issue, and especially to advocate for handling this matter. Likewise, we sincerely thank all the officials and staff of Ward Office No. 4 of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City, along with the officials of Sunsari District Administration Office, including the Chief District Officer, Assistant Chief District Officer, Administrative Officer all the employees of DAO, as well as the SWASA Nepal team and everyone for the efforts, hard work, and contributions towards the success of this achievement. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude from Mahila Sahayogi Samuha, Itahari-06, Sunsari.

Samuha participated in and facilitated the SWASA leaders' weekly meeting. There were participants from different districts. Each participant shared their weekly activities and discussed the challenges they encountered while working, along with strategies for moving forward.

Participated on the Stakeholders Mapping Programme entitle "Consortium To Advance Access To New HIV Prevention Products (CAAPP)" organized by Family Planning Association of Nepal, Sunsari Branch in coordination with Health Office Sunsari.

Participated on orientation on The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) organized by SWASA South Asia, SWASA Nepal, JMMS and NCS SWAN Nepal at Kathmandu, Nepal. 

Conducted interaction meeting with the community members on human rights in our office to ensure the rights. 

On 23rd August, 2024, Friday (2081/05/07), we successfully conducted a policy-level dialogue program at Pathibhara Hotel, Itahari, with political, governmental, non-governmental, civil society, and community leaders, with financial support from the Red Umbrella Fund. The program featured discussions on the introduction of Mahila sahayogi samuha, areas of work, supporting organizations, strategies, major achievements, major challenges, provisions related to sex workers by the Nepalese government, demands of sex workers, and effective strategies for ensuring the rights of female sex workers in collaboration with various organizations and local governments in the future.

We have successfully held executive committee meeting on 28th August , 2024 (2081/05/12) Wednesday, of the Mahila sahayogi samuha. The meeting discussed various topics, including the significance of the executive committee, the achievements of the organization, challenges, upcoming plans, and the general assembly.

On the occasion of the 18th National Day against Human Trafficking, various organizations working in Sunsari district have expressed solidarity for building a society free from human trafficking. A consultative seminar for strategic planning was held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, with the active participation of all board members and other office personnel of the Mahila Sahayogi Samuha (MSS)  in Itahari, Sunsari, Nepal.
In the meeting, various topics including the current status of the Women's Support Group, problems and challenges, solutions, and upcoming programs were presented and discussed in detail.

१८ वर्षकी यौन हिंसामा परेकी किशोरीलाई फिल्डमा कार्यरत फिल्ड कर्मचारीले भेटेर कार्यालयमा ल्याइएको थियो। किशोरीले आफू सँग कोही नभएको र आफू ८ महिनाको गर्भवती भएको जानकारी दिइनुभयो। साथै, आफ्नो बस्ने ठाउँ पनि नभएको बताउनु भयो।
त्यसपछि महिला सहयोगी समूहका बोर्ड सदस्यहरूसँग आपतकालीन बैठक राखी छलफल गर्दा उक्त किशोरीलाई सुरक्षित आवास (उद्यमी घर) मा राखेर सिप सिकाउँदै राख्ने निर्णय गरियो। तर, राखेको दिनै बेलुका करिब ८ बजे ती किशोरीलाई ब्यथा लाग्यो। त्यसपछि हामीले उनलाई परिवार नियोजन केन्द्र लगेका थियौं।
तर बिहान १० बजेसम्म कुनै प्रगति नभएपछि र शरीरमा रगतको कमी देखिएपछि उनलाई कोशी अस्पताल रिफर गरियो। कोशी अस्पताल पुग्दा बेड नभएको जानकारी पायै र उता किशोरीलाई ज्वरो समेत आइरहेकोले हामीलाई त्यहाँबाट धरान स्थित घोपा क्याम्पमा रिफर गरियो 
त्यहाँ भर्ना गरि उपचार अगाडि बढाइयो र ती किशोरीलाई ५पाउन्ड रगत चडाईयो र उनिले नर्मल प्रसूति भई छोरीलाई जन्म दिइन्। अहिले ती किशोरी र नवजात शिशुलाई निशाहाय बालबालिका सेवा आश्रममा राखिएको छ।
यो केस आउँदा, स्वासा नेपालकी हाम्रो आदरणीय शान्ति तिवारी म्यामले हामीलाई निकै प्रेरणा र सहयोग गर्दै यो केस सम्हाल्न मद्दत गर्नुभयो। हामी हाम्रो समर्पित स्टाफ र बोर्ड सदस्यहरूलाई यस संवेदनशील उद्धार घटनामा देखाउनुभएको अथक प्रयास, सहानुभूति र शीघ्र प्रतिकृयाको लागि हार्दिक धन्यवाद दिन चाहन्छौं। तपाईंहरूको प्रतिबद्धता र टीमवर्कले एक किशोरी र उनको नवजात शिशुको सबैभन्दा कठिन समयमा सुरक्षा र सहयोग प्रदान गर्न सम्भव बनायो।

With the support of Mahila Sahayogi Samuha and Swasa Nepal ||
An 18-year-old girl who was a survivor of sexual violence was found by a field staff member and brought to the office. The girl shared that she had no family support and was eight months pregnant. She also mentioned that she had no place to stay.
An emergency meeting was immediately held with the board members of Mahila Sahayogi Samuha, and it was decided to place her in a safe shelter (Udyami Ghar) where she could also learn some skills. However, on the very same evening, around 8 PM, she started experiencing labor pain. We then took her to the Family Planning Center.
By 10 AM the next day, there had been no progress, and due to signs of anemia, she was referred to Koshi Hospital. But upon reaching Koshi Hospital, we were informed there were no available beds. Since the girl had also developed a fever, we were further referred to the Ghopha Camp in Dharan.
She was admitted there, and her treatment was initiated. She was given 5 pound of blood and later delivered a baby girl through normal delivery. Currently, both the girl and her newborn have been placed at the Nishaahaya Balbalika Sewa Ashram.
During this critical time, our respected Shanti Tiwari ma’am from Swasa Nepal provided us with immense guidance and support, helping us manage this case with care and compassion. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff and board members for their relentless efforts, compassion, and prompt response in this sensitive rescue case. Your commitment and teamwork made it possible to provide safety and support to a teenage girl and her newborn during their most difficult time. 🙏🙏

The current situation in Nepal has deeply affected the sex worker community. Due to ongoing political instability, economic challenges, and increasing restrictions on public spaces, many sex workers have lost their regular income sources. Women who were already surviving on daily earnings are now struggling to meet basic needs such as food, rent, and healthcare. For those living with children or elderly family members, the burden is even heavier.

In addition, stigma and discrimination continue to push sex workers further into invisibility. Reports of harassment, violence, and arbitrary arrests have increased in some areas, making it unsafe for many to continue working. The lack of legal recognition of sex work means we are excluded from most social protection schemes and emergency relief programs.

Our organization ( Mahila Sahayogi Samuha- MSS)  is doing its best to respond, but we are facing significant challenges. Many of our members are in crisis situations, needing immediate support for food, medicines, and safe shelter. At the same time, our advocacy work has become harder, as shrinking civic space limits our ability to speak up openly.

              हाम्रा केहि यौन श्रमिक दिदि-बहिनीहरु अहिले बिरामी परिरहेका छन्। अहिले यस्तो अवस्थामा दैनिक काम गरेर जीविका चलाउन यौन श्रमिक दिदि-बहिनीहरु लाई आफ्नो दैनिक जिविका चलाउन निकै गाह्रो भएको छ। स्वास्थ्य झन् बिग्रँदा मानसिक तनाव समेत बढेको अवस्था छ। उनीहरूलाई तत्काल सहयोग आवश्यक छ!!

As their health deteriorates further, they are also facing increasing mental stress and depression. Needs  urgent support to them. ✊

During the Gen-Z movement, Santanu Dhakal, who was injured by a gunshot in Itahari, is currently undergoing treatment at Birat Teaching Hospital. Psychosocial counselor of Mahila Sahayogi Samuha Itahari, Ms. Durga, visited the hospital to provide comfort and counseling to the injured Gen-Z . The injured Gen-Z youth said, “I am worried about the country, even more than about myself.🙏🙏

आज मिति २०८२/०६/२९ गते महिला सहयोगी समूह, इटहरीको संयोजकत्वमा नेटवर्कमा आवद्ध यौनश्रमिक लिडरहरुको लागि “स्वास्थ्य बीमा र यसको प्रावधानहरू” विषयमा विस्तृत छलफल गरियो।”उक्त कार्यक्रम स्वासा नेपालको आर्थिक तथा प्राविधिक सहयोगमा गरिएको थियो। Today, on 2025/10/15 a discussion on “Health Insurance and its Provisions” was held for sex worker leaders affiliated with the network, under the coordination of Mahila Sahayogi Samuha, Itahari. The program was conducted with the financial and technical support of SWASA Nepal.
